Growing up in Brooklyn taught me that life can be challenging, but it also taught me that we all have the power to choose how we respond to those challenges. That’s the heart of what I call “Opt 2 Live” – the decision to live life fully instead of just existing from day to day.
My doctoral degree is in clinical psychology with a subspecialty in forensic psychology, but my real education came from working with people who’ve faced some of life’s toughest circumstances. I spent nearly 10 years as the psychological services director in both inpatient and outpatient prison units, working with individuals that many would consider the most challenging population in mental health. I also worked for nearly a decade with children and teens labeled as severely emotionally disturbed in the public school system, supporting young people ages 3 to 21 who were struggling to find their way. These experiences shaped my understanding that everyone – no matter their background or circumstances – deserves the chance to live optimally.
As a Black and Hispanic man with a strong Christian faith, I know how important it is to feel truly seen and understood in therapy.
I believe in taking a holistic approach that honors your mind firstly, but also focusing on the body and spirit, because real healing happens when we address the whole person, not just the symptoms.
I use a variety of techniques including cognitive behavioral therapy, EMDR, life coaching and Christian counseling, but what matters most is finding the approach that works for you. Whether you’re dealing with stress management, anger issues, working on assertiveness, overcoming fears, building self-esteem or just trying to figure out your next steps, we’ll work together to help you reach your full potential.
I have a particular passion for working with teens and young adults because I remember what it was like to navigate challenges in a tough environment. I also work with first responders, individuals, couples, and organizations – basically anyone who’s ready to stop just getting by and start truly living.
My goal is simple: to create a safe space where empathy flows freely and you feel heard, understood and supported as you become who you’re meant to be.
